I know this forum might lean towards Hyundai, but has anyone driven both the Sonata and K5? I’m looking for a semi-sporty all-wheel-drive highway commuter. They seem very similar, but I’d love to hear which one you all prefer. Thanks…
Wait, there’s an AWD Sonata?

Yes, it’s an option for the 2024 models and beyond.
Neither of these cars is truly sporty, but they are essentially the same and equal in almost every way. Just buy the one you think looks better.

I disagree; the K5 GT Line feels sporty. I have a 2022 Elantra N, and my wife’s 2025 K5 is solid for a full-sized family sedan with a naturally aspirated engine.
@Nuri
It’s as sporty as any other mid-size family sedan.

Are we talking about looks or engine performance?

I mean driving dynamics, of course.
@Kellan
You’re used to an Elantra N, right? Just so you know, an Elantra N isn’t sporty in the traditional sense; it’s a full-blown track-ready car overall. If you compare a K5 to stuff in its category like the Camry or Accord, then it definitely feels sporty. But compared to a Sonata (which feels more like a grandma’s car), there’s no comparison.
@Nuri
I’m more familiar with the Elantra N-Line, which I consider sporty. I think sporty cars have mild upgrades that enhance the driving experience without compromising too much comfort. Stock Sonatas, Accords, etc., drive well for what they are, but I wouldn’t call them sporty unless comparing them to something like a Toyota Highlander.
Make sure to get insurance quotes first. Many people overlook insurance costs and total ownership expenses until after the initial excitement wears off.
Lol, I’ll say it again since I drive a Hyundai. Go for the Kia K5.
