Are Hyundai cars really that bad? I recently purchased a Sonata 2019, with 80k miles on it, it is a nice beautiful car, with a smooth drive, but I’ve been reading comments about these cars, and are all negative. Am I just reading the bad reviews? Any good experiences?
You do realize that people are 10 times more likely to complain than to praise. Just enjoy your ride.

This.
Take the comments you see with a pinch of salt. If everything is going fine, there isn’t much to post, and if you do post a positive one, the haters just ridicule you.

Redditors also love to repeat stuff they read.

This car has the theta 2, so if anyone says it’s probably going to fail, they’ll be telling the 100% truth.

Edit: this comment is spot on.
I got an Elantra Touring in 2010 and it’s still tried and true. Some engines were bad on certain model years. That type of thing happens to every manufacturer. If your car is good to you: no worries.
@Skyler
I believe all Theta engines are bad … Eventually. They have a manufacturing defect that will retire the engine early. When is anyone’s guess, but they aren’t known for their reliability, that’s for sure.
@North
Does the 2017 Elantra have that engine?
I’m not sure. I don’t believe so, but I’m not an expert. I don’t know my Hyundais and Kias well, I just know to avoid Theta engines. I think you’re safe, but someone more knowledgeable about their vehicles would have a better answer.
@North
Yes, it has the theta 2. Why would you even take the time to write a paragraph that says I don’t know?

Actually, I don’t think it was an option in the 6th gen Elantra. Can you link me to something that says otherwise? Here’s my evidence… Hyundai Elantra - Wikipedia
Edit: I guess not. Lol.
Yes. If it hasn’t been replaced yet, it will need to be.
Google that year and ask.
I did ask, idiot.
Enter your VIN here. If your car has campaign 966 open, your engine will grenade. Get the KSDS update installed and keep documentation of your oil changes to get a free engine from Hyundai when the time comes.
I don’t think so. I believe it’s 19+ where they switched engines and transmissions to CVT.
Had my 18 Elantra for 6 years with 150,000 before it got totaled lol good car no problems did the maintenance myself. Yes, had slight oil consumption.
