As said in the title, I’m currently eyeing a 2021 Sonata. I’ve done a test drive and like the look of the car, but was hoping for some insight from those who have experience with the 2020-23 line. Any thoughts / experiences / criticism relating to it would be appreciated. Obviously this is a bit of a biased place to ask, but I figure you guys will have the most experience.
For background, I was previously driving an old Nissan Sentra Type R, but a moron rear ended me at a light and totaled my vehicle. I think a mid-sized sedan would be a nice upgrade, as I’d love the extra room and the smoother ride experience.
My dad has a 2021 Limited. Now I don’t want a car unless it has a heated steering wheel, ventilated seats, premium audio system, and adaptive cruise control.

I had a jeep that had a heated steering wheel. Got rid of it for my Santa Fe SEL which was all around a massive upgrade for me but dammit I miss my heated steering wheel in the winter sometimes.

Trust me all those features are worth it. I will always forever go with the highest trim which is the limited!

i am considering the same car, has his had ANY reliability issues and have the recalls affected his vehicle?
@Blake
necro thread but i just drove mine home tonight from the dealership. same as yours but with a comfort package. before this i was driving 99-03 saabs. i’ll still be crawling around on this motor but before i get in i’m taking my shoes off lol
good call on the low skirt check. mine has some scrapes on it. i’m having them touch up the paint. it’ll take some getting used to driving something this wide, but i’m a big dude and i’m so comfy in that seat.

USB plug in device for wireless android auto or Apple car play.
Interesting. I have a 21 Se and already has wireless android auto with no usb
Yes unfortunately the availability of this feature varies by trim with limited trim only having access to android auto by wire. Something about the differences in the head units.
@Sparrow
They released an update for the head unit on their website. You can do the update to the vehicle and make it wireless. I’ve done it to my 2021 SEL Plus.
@Uri
Well it’s only a year old and under warranty so reliability doesn’t enter the discussion yet. That said I have the driver side door panel switch assembly that has intermittent issues with some of the buttons not working. Next oil change I’ll expect this to be replaced under warranty.
Double check these come with an immobilizer. At least in populated areas Hyundais that share a model with the ones that don’t have immobilizer get broken into all the time.

Its wild how even mentioning the actual real world issue with owning these cars causes downvotes in this sub. This is a legitimate concern and this sub tries to bury it every time.

SEL trims have proximity key w/push button start. So no worries about not having immobilizer. Can’t be stolen, but can be broken into as car thieves see Hyundai and break into them. But yeah, it all depends on OPs location.
I owned a 2020 SEL with the 1.6T and it was a really nice car. Then I drove a 2022 Nline w the 2.5T and DCT and I traded it in that day. If you like a fast car, I’d suggest driving them both as the power is night and day.
