First off, the car is fantastic—I can’t believe how much value you get for the price with all the tech and safety features. They picked it up for $27k, which feels like a steal.
For those of you who own this model, I wanted to ask: how much are you paying for insurance, and which company are you using? We’ve been with State Farm for over 30 years (covering 4 cars and 2 homes), but their premiums have gotten out of control lately. They just quoted my dad $738, which seems crazy to me. For context, I had an Audi Q7 on the same policy just two years ago for around $600.
Looking for suggestions or alternatives—what are you all seeing out there?
We bought one about three months ago and the cost was about the same. The shitty thing is, it’s considered a “safe” car to the insurance industry due to the safety features, so you’re supposed to get a significant discount. Well, it was insignificant! I just paid the car off and I’m waiting for the letter of payoff and title which I’ll share with my insurance carrier. That should lower my premiums since they’re not also insuring for the lien holder. At least that’s how it has worked in the past for my cars and motorcycles!
State Farm raised their prices nationwide and depending on what state you live in, then it went up even more. I’m in Vegas and my State Farm location, the lady on the phone literally told me she would recommend I use a different insurance company because the company raised prices 50% and because I live in Vegas and everyone from Cali and everywhere else is moving here. She told me just the insurance being in Vegas with mass population that it went up 50% just due to that, so it went up 100% for me and my brand new 2023 Sonata N Line. They quoted me like just over $600, close to $700, so that price sounds about right to me. I have Allstate and haven’t had any problems. By the way, when I was on that State Farm account, it was my dad’s and my dad has a perfect record, so even with me added to his plan, it was still that much. It’s crazy dude.
I bought the same model a week ago and have Progressive. My policy went up to $1445 and I have one vehicle and a clean driving record. But I live in Southeast Texas where I’m told that rates across the board have gone up because we are a hurricane area. Also, I go through an insurance broker and Progressive had the best pricing.
Had a few companies deny me due to just having a Sonata. Don’t even get to the questions about my driving history. Told them I had a 2020 Sonata and was told NO!
I have 2 vehicles: a 2020 Ranger and a 2022 Sonata Limited. I pay $668 for 6 months, full coverage, through Progressive. That’s like $55 a month per vehicle. Granted, they’re garage stored when I’m home, but the quotes I’m seeing on here are ridiculous.
I’ll be dropping to liability next renewal because they’ll both be 3 years old and I’m retired now.
Hyundai Sonatas & Kias have been getting stolen & broken into in some areas at a high volume. Even though this car may be more difficult to steal because it has an immobilizer, they still break into it. I’m thinking about purchasing one but if the insurance premium is high, I’ll pass. Getting a quote through State Farm too. We will see. It’s an SEL FWD.
My Sonata insurance keeps going up every month. When I bought the car I was paying $90 a month for full coverage; now I am paying $200 a month for full coverage and I am old with multiple policies and no violations in over 30 years. I have even tried other companies. They said it is due to TikTok.
The TikTok trend of breaking into and stealing Hyundais/Kias. Dumb kids were/are breaking into any Hyundai or Kia to see if they can steal it regardless of if it has the immobilizer, thus driving insurance rates up.
Have owned (2) the SEL Plus models from 2021 and 2022.
The first was involved in a minor fender bender back in mid-August, no fault of my own, no airbags deployed, but it was still totaled out.
The second suffered a deer impact at 70 MPH on the freeway back in mid-Nov, much more significant damage and side curtain airbags deployed, was also totaled out.
Best cars I’ve ever owned. And each, especially in the latter accident, kept me alive and without a scratch.
Unsure of what car I’m going to buy next, on account that even the minor fender bender in the first accident led to being totaled out.
