Of course, our favorite songs change all the time; we listen to one song for a while and then we grow tired of it for up to years.
But one way to answer is by asking yourself this question: “Which Sonata Arctica songs have given me the best feeling or which song have I listened to the most for a long period?”
I’m very fond of almost all of their songs but my favorites of all time must be: [Wolf & Raven],[Last Drop Falls] and [Blank File].
Right now though, I’ve been listening a lot to [White Pearls, Black Oceans] and thus would be my favorite as of right now.
From my teen years to today, my favorite is still ‘The End of this Chapter.’ I know people talk about Sonata going away from speedy power metal as a disappointing aspect of the band, but I have always largely preferred the mid-paced songs. I love ‘Wolf and Raven,’ ‘The Cage,’ etc. too, but I prefer stuff like this, ‘Somewhere Close To You,’ ‘It Won’t Fade,’ ‘Among The Shooting Stars,’ ‘The Last Amazing Grays,’ etc. just good melodic music. But ‘TEotC’ is still my favorite.
And on their new singles so far I’ve really been digging ‘Dark Empath.’ ‘First in Line’ is good, and I enjoy it, but not what I’m here for, I guess you could say. ‘Monster Only You Can’t See’ is solid too but probably my least fav so far on the new stuff.

I don’t think that anyone means the slower “ballads” on early Sonata albums by this. Yeah, these songs are slower paced, but they still have the power and energy. I also love ‘TEotC.’
A lot of Sonata Arctica songs inspire personal stories for me, so I get a lot of inspiration, especially from their slower songs like ‘As If the World Wasn’t Ending’ and ‘Breathing.’
But I’m also a huge fan of rock, and ‘Stones Grow Her Name’ has a lot of my favorites (yes, even ‘Shitload of Money’).
It’s kinda hard to pick because the genres are so varied, so there’s a time and mood to fit best. But I guess if I thought in terms of the most played song, it’s probably ‘Wildfire II.’

The first time I heard this song was in Acoustic Adventures, and I thought it was a new song for that album. So when I put SA on shuffle and the original came up, I was surprised at hearing the same lyrics, but both songs sounded so different.

Lol, I had the same experience. I thought it was so neat that they were opening up an acoustic renditions album with a great melodic original song to set the stage for the rest of the songs. Consequently, when I heard the original version later, I actually didn’t like it. I still don’t. It’s musically so much less interesting to me. I love the acoustic rendition though.

Same, to be honest. A lot of people like their earlier power metal stuff, but for me, it can get very discordant. I can still listen and enjoy it, but if there’s a slower version (like ‘Wolf and Raven’), I’d tend to like the slower one more.
