2012 Hyundai Sonata brake light issues

I’ve already replaced the brake switch and brake pad stopper, but my rear brake lights still stay on while driving and even after turning off the car. Since it’s the SE trim with push start, it can start back up immediately without pressing the brake after shutting it off. It seems like it might be an electrical issue, but I’m not sure. Any suggestions?

First, check the fuses. I checked the light bulb to ensure it was the correct one and examined the sockets for any damage or burnout, and everything was fine. Then I replaced the brake switch, and that fixed the problem! This tip came from a local parts company. Luckily, I didn’t have to go through all the wire checks or use the map as you suggested. Thank you for your help; I hope this information assists you with future issues related to my type of vehicle. It’s best to direct the consumer to the switch first.

I’ve had to replace the harness on both rear brake lights at different times. I kept changing the bulbs, thinking they were causing strange problems like staying on when they shouldn’t. However, there have been no issues since I replaced the harnesses.

Is your car covered by a warranty or recall for the brake light harness?

If it is (warranty or recall applies), does your car have less than 200,000 miles? Be sure to get it fixed.

I’m glad you discovered the switch was the problem. It’s strange since the brake lights function during the day, indicating the switch was operational as well.
