|2021 Sonata N Line| vs |2022 Civic Hatchback Sport Touring|

The 2022 Honda Civic Sport Touring, with 24,412 km on the odometer and priced at $29,990 plus taxes, offers a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) 7-year powertrain warranty. The Civic is known for its spacious interior despite being a compact car, and its hatchback design adds practicality for carrying cargo.

On the other hand, the 2021 Hyundai Sonata N Line has 23,923 km, is priced at $28,980 plus tax, and comes with almost two years of factory warranty remaining. The Sonata N Line is a midsize sedan, providing a more powerful engine and sportier performance compared to the Civic.

7 extra years of powertrain warranty on a car that’s much cheaper to own is a huge incentive. It’s not as “nice” as the Sonata, but it’s not a base model plus it’s definitely going to last you a lot longer. That being said, 29k CAD for a top level Civic seems quite low, especially for around here. Check the carfax and see how many owners plus if it’s been in any collisions, that might be why.

@Chen
7 years or 120,000km mileage whichever comes first. I know the financially and the trunk space the Civic is the better choice. But I am very intrigued by the Sonata because it has 290hp and seems more performance-oriented. I found another Sonata CPO but those have more mileage on them.

@Kellan
It is more performance-oriented for sure, but it’s stock otherwise so expect torque steer and understeer. It’ll be more comfortable for sure, it’ll be faster and have more toys; however long term you’d definitely be spending more in repairs and fuel. If that’s not important or you just like the power then hey you do you. The Sonata is still a fantastic product regardless but it is more of a risk when put up against the Civic.

@Chen
I forgot to mention there are 2 Civics for this price at two locations. Almost the same mileage. Both CPO. Both show no accidents in carfax. So I am assuming it’s priced right. I actually saw another one $1k cheaper, also CPO and no accident, but that one is sold.

How much is the insurance gonna be on that Civic? I got quotes that were kinda ridiculous cause they’re a high theft item in my area.

Really? The Civic costs more to insure than Sonata? I thought it would be opposite due to the Sonata being performance-oriented.

@Kellan
In my area, Civics are being stolen a whole lot. Granted, the difference between the Civic and Sonata is less than the difference between the Elantra and the Civic by a decent chunk. Regardless, you should be able to get quotes from your insurance company if you toss them the VIN.

@Oak
You are right, the Civic is more expensive—$212 more per year.

@Oak
Yeah, I am checking online now.

I don’t like CVTs, so that would make my decision for me, but a more apples to apples comparison would be to the Elantra N Line.
