Hyundai dealership is trying to scam me

Hi all,
I am feeling like the Hyundai dealership is trying to scam me, quoting $1800 for a repair unrelated to the smoke coming from my engine. I had the engine replaced just two years ago for a similar issue.

Based on my unfortunate experience with Hyundai dealers, they are incredibly unreliable. They only seem to handle things like engine replacements and otherwise offer little help.

I was told that the issue with mine was a broken exhaust valve, which caused oil to leak into the cylinder and foul it. Whatever is wrong with yours will likely require a partial or full teardown to diagnose. If you don’t have an extended warranty, expect to pay $2,000 to $4,000 just for the teardown, with repairs being an additional cost.

If you’re out of warranty and paying out of pocket, why are you going to a dealership?

I had a similar issue, and when I contacted the corporate office, I was unsure how much influence they had over the situation. I just wanted to get my car started so I could drive to the nearest Carvana and sell the piece of junk.

So, do you want to sell it? Take it to the dealership and get a new Toyota?
