What do you hate/dislike about your 2024 Hyundai Sonata?

I have the 2024 Sonata Hybrid Limited, love it. About 38k OTD, had a 2018 Sonata Hybrid Limited before that I bought used. Being honest if you are going for the SEL for the price, get a used '18 hybrid instead assuming you get dealer warranty. The SEL is nice but feature-wise I think that at least having the convenience package might be better in value proposition.

@Bao
I am hesitant to buy a hybrid car since I know the batteries can cost a couple thousand to replace. Toyota’s 2025 Camry line is all gonna be hybrid, so I feel that if I do go for hybrid, I should get a Camry over a Sonata. I can’t argue with the build quality of Toyota (I currently have a Camry with about 130k miles and it has never given me any major issues). It’s hard because I just love the design and tech of the 2024 Sonata.

@Wynne
Don’t fall for the prices of hybrid batteries. Hyundai offers a good warranty, I had a used 2018 hybrid and was good so I ended up upgrading for the 2024.

I did shop between Camry, Sonata, and Accord hybrids and it really depends on what you want. (All hybrid).

I actually feel the 2024 Sonata feels more premium, less sporty but more comfortable, and the technology in the Hybrid Limited trim is great. Only the blind spot cameras using turn signals is a game changer. Digital key is amazing and you also get Bluelink for life. The marketing is confusing, but remote start and other functions are free for life while OTA are paid after 3 years which is ok being honest. And the 100k warranty is peace of mind.

The only plus I see right now on the Camry also is the AWD hybrid, but I know you can get the Sonata hybrid AWD too, but it seems hard to find at least where I live.

If I were you I would test drive and shop around; with gas prices I think it’s best to go for hybrid, and if you don’t like technology you might get the hybrid SEL Sonata. The design also is not only striking but interesting at least inside, with the only downside I see is that compared to my 2018 Sonata I had before, I miss the leather pouch for folders, the leather storage behind the seats, and the center storage tray (the 2024 does not have a tray which is odd). Also, the smart cruise from Hyundai is leagues ahead of Honda and marginally better than Toyota based on what I could test on test drives. One feature I saw in the hybrid of the Sonata was that I could set the regen brake to auto so it would automatically regen based on anything in front of the car which makes trips nicer, getting 50 mpg on a 30-mile commute that goes through highway and a lot of city blocks.

2024 Sonata Preferred trend (equivalent of SEL with convenience).

First thing I hate is that the car is sometimes extremely smooth and fun to drive. Otherwise, it’s very coarse and rough. Makes the car feel like it’s driving with the brakes on. Kind of messes with your mind.

Next thing I hate is the stock 6 speaker system. Sucks. I wish I had the Bose. Right door speaker is already giving me crackling sounds.

Third is that I wish the seats were a tiny bit wider. Because if you drive relaxed, your knees hit the door and the center console. And I wish the seats went down lower as well.

Off the line torque is nothing to write home about. If you’re already moving, it can pick up speed. But there’s not enough torque for such a big car. If I put my foot down all the way, it goes. But makes a lot of noise.

I’m currently driving a '24 SEL and I’m not excited about the car at all. I own a '14 Sonata 2.0 SE and love that car more than the new one. I’m getting my engine replaced under the extended recall warranty. Anyway, the '24 SEL has garbage power 191hp for one; it also has a lot of transmission lurching and downshift kick. The gear selector is about the dumbest idea ever, the little flip selector and push the button to put it in park is dumb. Good luck getting that thing in neutral when the battery dies or some other shit happens. The auto bright is terrible; they either blind other drivers or just don’t stay on. The self-diagnostics on the car is useless. It would make sense to have it be a data logger, not just a screen that says brakes might be bad or engine has a problem but with no codes or data to give you; it’s a pointless system. One good thing is that Bluetooth connects extremely fast. Cup holders are weak and not deep enough and if you’re tall good luck; the seat doesn’t go that far down. Once again, the Sonata lacks vehicle info on the dash. We need oil pressure, oil life, and all that in one screen. Anyway, good luck with whatever you buy but I’d look at the N-Line; maybe they have better vehicle info and more power.

@Frey
Wow, thank you for your transparency. I think I’m going to go with what I know best and get the new Camry. It’s true that you can never go wrong with Toyota or Honda.

Only thing I dislike about the 2024 Sonata SEL is the stereo system. Should’ve splurged for the convenience package with the Bose system. OTD was $26,000; traded in my 2021 Hyundai Elantra Limited with 25,300 miles. I’m going to get some JBL put in next week.

Biggest regret is having a Hyundai.

Don’t regret mine one bit :slight_smile: I do regret having a Chevy, Honda, and Toyota though.
