2018 Sonata oil light flashing while braking and making a turn

My oil light keeps flashing whenever I brake or go around corners. I even checked the oil level and changed it just to be safe, but it’s still happening. So frustrating! Anyone else deal with this?

The oil being low is moving around in the engine compartment; that’s why the oil light comes and goes while braking and cornering. Top it up ASAP.

But it’s hardly 10 days since the last oil change.

@Zion
Monitor it for leaks, but this is definitely because the oil pressure is low-- meaning the oil is low.

Happened to mine; dealer cracked the oil pan. Check for leaks.

Same here, I had a cracked oil pan replaced under warranty. No oil use after that.

@Zion
Your engine sounds like it’s about to go then. Mine did the same thing prior to catastrophic failure.

@Zion
First, go to dealer ASAP and have oil pan checked for cracks. Mine cracked, and was replaced under warranty.

Exact same thing happened to me at Valvoline. Turns out it was a faulty oil filter seal. Took 5 days for my light to appear. When the light turns on, it means you are causing severe damage. Immediately add oil and take it to a shop. As for Valvoline, do not let them touch your car. Took a month of BS to get them to admit it. When they finally fixed it, I didn’t even receive a call from corporate.

Normally it flashes when the oil is low. These things are also highly notorious for burning oil at rapid rates. Top the oil up and monitor it every couple of days if the light stops flashing.

Warning: not a mechanic and this is not a professional opinion. Maybe the oil in the engine is sloshing around, and that’s why it’s saying oil level is low. I would put more oil in it.

Burning oil happened to me, 1000 miles it was burning 2-3 quarts maybe even more lol.

My 2016 consistently burns 3 quarts per 1000 miles lol.

Monitor your oil level, of course, but it might also be the sensor.
Source: I had this issue on my 2016, and it was the sensor.

Had the same on my 17 Santa Fe. Oil was actually pouring out from the transmission and engine at the bottom. Had to park it because all shops were booked weeks out!! Finally got it in a local shop and was told my rear main seal had gone. It’s not even 10 years old yet! The massive oil stain is etched into her parking spot forever.

The flashing oil light indicates low oil PRESSURE. Low oil is one common cause for low pressure, but there are other causes oil pump-related. I would take it in for service so they can diagnose rather than have internet strangers guess.

I first noticed my 18 Sonata was burning oil when I would take a corner and the oil light would come on. I’m in the middle of all the pain in the ass steps to see if they’ll replace my engine.

This. For me, it was fairly straightforward but took them about a month to get it ‘approved’ by Hyundai, and they did not give me a loaner until then.

@Fay
I had to wait 2 months. No loaner. Just got my 2017 back a few days ago. But now my radio is going in and out and the display screen too.

Never had a problem with the radio, but definitely will NEVER buy a Hyundai again.
