I just got a full synthetic oil change for my Sonata and was wondering how many miles do you go for an oil change. The sticker on my car says about 3,000 miles, but since I got full synthetic, shouldn’t it last longer? My commute to work is an hour each way, so my miles will go up fast.
Go to glove box. Open glove box. Open owner’s manual. Skim through it. You’ll get a verified answer from the manufacturer.
I have 230k miles on mine following what my manual says 7,500 miles.

So many stupid answers when this is the only correct one.
They literally give you the guide book with the car.

I’ve talked to service managers from multiple dealerships. It’s really a value proposition so it looks like your engine is more effective than it is. The majority said at least every 5k miles. Better than 3k but not 7.5k either. I’d rather be cautious than worry about a few extra oil changes. Especially when maintenance is covered by a lot of brands already with new cars.
@Sam
Gotta consider what you’re getting when you’re talking about covered maintenance.
My ex-wife bought a new 2023 Palisade in Nov22. Oil changes included for 10 years. But they only change at 7500. Her drive style (commuting, lots of start/stop, idling, short trips, cold weather) indicates severe service schedule. So ~3750 oil changes. So we paid for every other oil change.
@Wendell
I have a 23 Elantra that I pay for every other oil change. They in fact don’t pay for every one.

Yea, every time she came in, they’d be like ‘You’re not at 7500 yet’. And we’d be like, yep, change the oil, I’ll pay and be back in another month or whatever.

Generally whatever the owner’s manual says, but I tend to choose the severe duty option if there is one, my dad’s Ram 1500 for example says the severe duty oil change is 4000 miles, normal is 7500, furthest with high quality oil is 10k. I like to do 5k cause I do occasional towing with it, and my dad will commute with it on the highway mostly.
Ooh good. Another oil change thread.
10,000, 7500, 5000, 3500, 3000… Anyone lower than 3000? I’m just waiting for someone to say they change it daily, when they get up in the morning.
EDIT: We have a 2000 oil change. (See comments below.)
Unless anyone can put in a lower bid we have a winner.
Going once…
EDIT 2: u/Financial-Seaweed-51 has the lowest bid for oil changes in 2000 ye old feudal miles. Going twice…
@Noor
Wait… you don’t change your oil in the morning??! I do it right after morning coffee and

Remind me 2077.
@Noor
I do a rotating schedule of 5k then 2k. I did every 2k for a while.

I think that’s the recommendation for the Kappa II engines in ‘extreme conditions’ aka ‘driving it with the engine on’.
3,500 or 5,000 depending on how you drive or personal preference.
If you plan on keeping your car a long time, 5000 miles is the sweet spot with full synthetic, IMHO. 3000 too soon, 7500 too long. It’s also easy to remember when to change it… 5-10-15-20, etc. A glance at your odometer and you will know if you are due or not!! Just my opinion, I could be wrong! lol
Buddy, it’s a Sonata. I also drive a Sonata and try to change it every 3500 miles.
Being cheap on a cheap car will have uncle Rodney knocking at your door one morning. Just get it done every 3.5k.
